Jacob hates going shopping and I hate taking him with me because it is always frustrating for both of us. Sometimes he gets an incentive, like a sucker or animal cookies in the circus box. The last time we went shopping he decided he wanted a pair of yellow rubber gloves. I didn't mind at all, healthy and cheap!! He likes to wear them on his feet and run around the house with his Oregon Ducks caller. He also does other inventive things with them. We were eating eggs and he decided he needed to wear them "So my hands don't get dirty, Mom!!" Why didn't I think of that?! He actually ate his whole plate of food with the gloves on, I think mostly to prove me wrong after I said "I don't know, it might be hard."
Most of the posts on this blog are about our son, Jacob. Mainly because he is much more interesting than Max and me. This blog is also being made into a book of memories for our family. Enjoy this peek into our lives!

Who is a Brave Swimmer Now?
Jacob is!!!! Remember a time in the not so distant past when we would have to prepare him to enter the middle of the pool and he would do so clutching onto his momma. Top that picture with a continuous high pitched "Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!" and the horrible scene is complete. Now he is starting to be a little fish! He will sit in his float ring without anyone near him and kick to get where he needs to go!! He will hold only onto his momma's shoulder while wearing his water-wings and kick like crazy. He has even accidentally let go and it wasn't the end of the world. Swimming has become a much better experience, and it only took 3 years and moving to BR to do it!!
Who Let the Cockroach In?
I think it was me!! I opened the door to see how hot and humid it was to do some late night spray-painting on our patio. I am hoping that is when the little bugger came flying in. I found him above my head on the cabinet while finishing up the dishes. Smacking him with the fly swatter didn't work so I smooshed him with it, drug him across the cupboard where he was trying to escape, and he landed in a dirty sippy cup on the counter. I quickly turned on the garbage disposal and down he went to his grinding grave!! If I see another one I will seek pest control from the complex's office. Just glad Jacob was sleeping because he would have wanted to keep it, even though he hates them worse than anyone.

The Self Portrait
Every morning inorder to get Jacob to dress himself I lay his clothes out so he can easily put them on without frustration. I was getting frustrated one morning when he was laying around, not attempting to put on his clothes. As I reminded him from the kitchen that he needed to get dress he explained, "I am making me, Mom!!" I had no idea what he was talking about and then he said, "Look at me!! Look at me!!"
He had laid his shirt, shorts, underwear(peeking out from his shorts), and shoes so that he had indeed made "ME!" He also ran and got a pillow for his "invisible" head and his blankey and blue dog (because they make up "me" as well). I couldn't be frustrated anymore but eventually had to end up encouraging him to put his clothes on the real boy.

The Morning Apart
This morning I made plans for Jacob to go to his friend house and play (his momma owed me babysitting hours) while I ran some errands. It was bliss!! I love my son but being apart is healthy for our relationship :) I went to the Coco-cola plant by the airport and got 6-15 gallon empty syrup barrells. We are quickly trying to prepare for hurricane season. (I was able to get a never-been-used Coleman 2 Burner Gas Stove for $30 off Craig's list from a sweet couple who talked my ear off about their wonderful trip through Idaho.) The I went to Re-Store and got several items for my DIY projects in our home. The time apart went fast and it was quickly time to pick Jacob up. He had so much fun at his friend's house and I can speek for both of us when I say that we can't wait to do it all again!!

The Boat
Jacob likes to play in this big container/locker. He attached the BSU flag and decided it was a great boat. He uses tennis rackets for oars and a pump for the motor. He has been playing in it for the past 2 days and even fell asleep in it while watching a movie. What a creative boy.

The Father's Day
What an eventful day! Jacob gave his first talk in Primary and did a great job repeating what I whispered in his ear. We practiced a few times before hand so he would not whisper when I did. The pulpit was too tall and he couldn't peek over it so I put my foot on the stool and he sat on my knee while I held up the pictures and he spoke into the microphone. He felt like such a big boy. Oh, he also had his first day at church with underwear and he stayed dry.
Jacob and I made a tie for his dad for father's day. He had a very hard time keeping it a secret and kept talking about it. Max would go "SHHHHHH" and "Nooooo don't tell me!!" But it just made Jacob mad most of the time. This morning I went into Jacob's room to have him help me wrap dad's gift. He insisted on showing dad the tie before we wrapped it and got very angry when I tried to explain that we needed to wrap it first. He grabbed the tie and ran into the bathroom where dad was sitting on the toilet and threw the tie at him, said "Happy Father's Day" and ran away. Then he ran back and grabbed the tie and insisted that we wrap it. He then gave his gift and card to dad (still on the throne) and told him to open it. What a unique father's day. Poor dad :) His tie had Jacob's handprint and I painted on

Max's request for dinner was brats and mashed potatoes. Easy! We didn't get to eat until 8:30pm because he decided to take a 4 hour nap and Jacob also fell asleep at 5:30pm. I made a coconut cake but it was not my best. I do know how I can make it better next time, though.

The Potty Project
Jacob has been coming along on potty training. He had a hard time transitioning from pull-ups to underwear until we decided that he could still go poop in a pull-up. We slowly prepared him for doing away with the little potty and now he goes pee in the big toilet. He even goes without his toilet seat insert. We don't have to remind him to go, except before leaving the house. He is responsible for getting his own hershey kiss if he goes potty and as soon as the kisses are gone then we are not buying anymore for rewards. He forgets to reward himself most of the time anyway. Now, about his poop progress. Despite many huge incentives, he still has yet to poop in the toilet. When he does need to go, before we give him a pull-up he has to get on the toilet and empty his pee. We hope that he will have an Opps and realize it isn't that bad. He is in charge of changing out of his underwear, putting on his pull-up, staying in the bathroom to go, asking someone to change him, and then putting his underwear back on. Most of the time this happens. He made the statement today, "I need to learn how to poop in the toilet." echoing what we have said for the past several months. It will sink in (no pun intended), but when is the question.

The Sandwich
I have been trying to make Max's lunches everyday, whether it be left-overs or a sandwich. A few weeks ago I sent him off to the daily grind with pasta left-overs and I added some bread to go with it. I buttered 2 pieces of bread and placed them buttered side together in a sandwich bag. I guess my packaging was deceiving because it wasn't until half way through his "sandwich" that Max declared (in his mind) that this was a WEAK sandwich. It was then that he opened it and realized that it was just buttered bread to go with his real entry. I, of course, had a nice chuckle when he told me.

The Twins
A few weeks ago, Jacob and I were thrift store shopping. He loves trying adult shoes and happened upon a sparkly purple pair. He really wanted to buy these shoes after walking in them and just my luck, there were two pairs. I tried the other pair on and we decided to be shoe twins. The sales clerk loved it. He still wanted to buy the twin shoes but was appeased after taking this picture and a promise to show dad. Phew, I really didn't need two pairs of purple sparkly shoes :)
The Boys
Thursday and Friday were fun-filled when I was babysitting for a friend. Jacob had two friends to play with; Michael-3, and Huey-1 1/2. He couldn't contain his excitement to play and share his toys, although he was a big show-off (it was a little annoying and I just wanted Jacob to be his fun self). By the second day he was less bossy and didn't show off as much and the three had a great time. I, on the other hand, was a little frazzled at trying to referee and monitor while preparing for a Scentsy party on Friday night (which, by the way, was very successful).
They all wanted to snuggle in Jacob's McQueen bed.
Playing pirates all day long.

The Question
Jacob just came up to me with his tambourine, pointed to the metal things, and asked "Mom, are these cymbals?" I had to think about it because I wanted to state that he was holding a tambourine. Then I realized that the tiny round noise makers did indeed look like cymbals. I agreed that they were tiny cymbals and he stated, "The tiny cymbals make a tambourine." I often wonder if I will be smart enough for this child's questions.
The Big Storm
We had a huge storm last Saturday that a local says was a close cousin to a tornado. No funnels, just a lot of wind, rain, thunder, and lightning. Jacob was very scared and settled down with earplugs. It seems that the storm was not a usual weather occurance here but not surprising. We were one of the areas hard hit and we were out of electricity for about 5 hours. We went to the mall to get out of the heat. Then we drove about 30 minutes to get a Blizzard at the nearest Dairy Queen. I consider the storm as a warning to get our emergency prepardness in order.
Our flooded front yard. See the tree that fell on the car in the background?
The debri looked liked when it snows and the snow piles up where the cars don't go, if you know what I mean. Not sure if you can tell but the traffic light poles were pushed/bent around the post by the 60 mile an hour winds.
The Beginning
I am starting a new blog for all our friends and family who are interested in hearing about our family's day to day fun and progress through life. Of course much of it will be about Jacob because our life revolves around him (but don't tell him that). I am not a wordy person and despite being a stay at home mom with only one child, I don't have a lot of time. So, here is the beginning......
