Most of the posts on this blog are about our son, Jacob. Mainly because he is much more interesting than Max and me. This blog is also being made into a book of memories for our family. Enjoy this peek into our lives!

New Job

I have been working at Jacob's school, Shenandoah, for a month now. I am a special education assistant in a self-contained classroom and I love it. After the school year started I put my application on file with the school district but I was very picky about where I wanted to work. I also continued to look for work elsewhere but nothing seemed right for me or our families schedule. I was basically looking for a little work so we could pay down our debt faster and eventually obtain a house. In February, a friend needed someone to watch her 2 year old, Trevor, for a few months. He is such a sweet child and I really enjoyed his company. Jacob stated that he feels like he is a bi brother when Trevor comes over. Awwww!! Even though his mom wanted me to be his primary sitter, when the job opened up at the elementary school I jumped at the chance. When I was interviewed I was asked why I wasn't teaching and the principal understood that I was not wanting a career at this time of my life. My dream job really is my current position. I get to be with the children, to teach them, and enjoy them but I don't have all the headache and stress of paperwork, lesson plans, and parent communication. I can go home to my family and enjoy my evenings and weekends. And Jacob and my schedules are basically the same. It is wonderful!! Just what we have been praying for! A job that doesn't take away from our current family life. When we told Jacob that I was going to be working at his school he was so excited. He kept calling me teacher. It was cute! It is also enjoyable to see him here and there at school and to get feedback from his teachers. We only have about a month and a half left of school and I'm a little bummed. But I am sure I will be there next school year too!

Nonna's Visit

On the afternoon of Sunday, February 10th, Nonna flew in to visit us for the week. We got to the NOLA airport fairly early to pick her up and the boys were getting frustrated :) We were very excited when she finally arrived. At first Jacob was quiet and shy but it didn't take him long to become the chatty child that we know and love. Despite eating before we left Baton Rouge, we were all starving so we headed to the Waffle House. I don't care what other's say but I like their food. I think Nonna enjoyed it, or maybe she was so hungry that she would have eaten anything :)

For the first 24 hours Jacob couldn't leave Nonna alone. It wasn't that he wouldn't, but he was so excited and happy that she was there so he couldn't contain himself. Hugging her, asking her a million questions, and telling her all about everything.

Jacob had three days off from school for Mardi Gras break so he was able to spend lots of time with his grandma. Some of the fun things we did while Nonna was here included: waiting for it to stop raining and warm up, shooting taxidermy at Bass Pro Shop, Build-a-Bear and train and carousel rides at the very crowded mall, playing at home with Dylan, eating at BJ's, IHOP, Gino's, Jasmine's on the Bayou, and Emeril's NOLA Restaurant. Jacob went back to school for Valentine's Day so that gave us all a little break :) On Friday, he took the day off school so that we could all say goodbye to Nonna at the airport. It was a fun, memorable visit!

Symmetry

While Max was at work and I took a little nap, Jacob was entertaining himself. He likes to get cozy on the couch and watch cartoons on Netflix. This time he also got the Blokus game out and when I woke and Max came home Jacob showed us the design he made. We told him that he used amazing symmetry. He responded, "What's symmetry?" Sometimes he amazes me.
