Most of the posts on this blog are about our son, Jacob. Mainly because he is much more interesting than Max and me. This blog is also being made into a book of memories for our family. Enjoy this peek into our lives!

Naptime

Sunday Max asked Jacob to cuddle with him in our bed. Of course, they both ended up falling asleep, Max snoring loudly and Jacob somehow sleeping through it.

Mardi Gras

Although we didn't get to go to any parades this year because of sickness, rain, and Max working, we did enjoy some fun. I decided to make some king cakes for Max's staff to enjoy (be my guinea pigs since I have never made one before). I had to drag my bad back to the store for some ingredients and took to combining 3 different recipes to come up with what I like in a king cake. By the time I was finished Monday evening I was tired but my back was doing better. Who woulda thunk.  I finished decorating them on Tuesday morning before we took them to Max. Jacob was so eager to decorate so I let him have at the left over colored sugar and frosting. He was in heaven, layering and decorating his own king cake (an empty plate, what an imagination).
Cute boy in heaven! Hey mom, who else used to cock their head in pictures?
His finished product. Notice the empty sugar bowls and frosting bottle. It was hard trying to keep him from licking his fingers like crazy.
A side view of my finished products. Don't worry, I cleaned the beads before decorating with them.
I played around with different flavors and ended up making two double chocolate (not a common flavor), one cream cheese, and one apple cinnamon cream cheese. Everything was homemade, down to the colored sugar (that is why it isn't the best purple). They turned out really well and I also learned what I can do different when I make them next year. The staff loved them and Max was a proud husband. I just loved creating them!!
Jacob loves to look at the "Margridaw" things in Walmart.

Daily Playdate

Jacob and I are having a lot of fun every afternoon when the Hughes kids come for a few hours. I get to play with 6 mo. old Unity for a while and then she takes a little nap. Jacob gets to play with Michael and Huey in his 'room of fun'. Last Friday their dad got off work early and he proposed a trade. Me take Unity and he would take all the boys to the park and McDonald's ice cream. I thought it was a grand idea! And Jacob came home dirty, with lots of stories, and tons of energy. Too much fun!
Unity, Huey, Michael, and Jacob (who looks like he is picking his nose).
I had to get a picture of her eating 'cuz her tongue just goes. She is darling! Max asks when I am planning on taking her from the Hughes! :)

Lesson Learned

We went to BJ's, one of our favorite restaurants the other day. When we were almost done eating, Jacob asked me why I hadn't eating any of my white dip for my french dip. I explained that I would rather have the Au Jus. He decided he wanted to it and dipped a fry into my white dip. He ate it and then a few seconds later he says, "HA, HA" (hot, hot) and grabs for his chocolate milk. It was horseradish sauce. Don't worry, he was smiling the whole time and thought it was funny. He didn't get that much anyway. Now he knows why momma wasn't eating it herself!

Tornado Warning

Family snuggling on the couch during the wonderful thunderstorm and tornado warning. Jacob was nervous of the grumblings and I loved it!

Dry Nights

So far we have 5 nights of Jacob waking up dry. Jacob: "I have not peed in this pull-up!" Me: It must be a magic pull-up. Jacob matter-a-factly: "No... It's just me." He is very happy that he has been waking up dry. We are too because soon we won't have to buy pull-ups.

Problems

Jacob woke up yesterday morning, ran into my room, and said "Momma, I am having a nose prwoblemb". He has a cold and his nose is running like a faucet. He has been grouchy and moody. We stayed home from church today because he couldn't control his 'nose problem' and he just laid around all day. Later today we were eating ice cream and Jacob grabbed his forehead and ducked down. I said, "What is wrong? Do you have a headache?" and he dramatically responded, "I have an ice cream headache!" It was so funny the way he said it.

Something

Thought I'd post something during our lull. Not much has been happening. I have been watching our friends' kids for about 2 hours every afternoon while she finishes her beauty school hours. The two boys, Michael (4) and Huey (almost 3) enjoy playing together and I enjoy a tad bit of baby with Unity (6 mo) before she goes down for nap. Fairly uneventful so far but the little bit of money will help us pay our taxes. And Jacob loves the play time. He drives me crazy all afternoon asking when they are coming. I finally bought a thrift store digital alarm clock for his room and he knows that they come at 3:15. This has helped.

I made Jacob a poster calendar for his wall so he can see all the months at one time and he can develop a better understanding of time. He loves it! He has known the months of the year and days of the week for a while but now he is applying his knowledge. When he asks what day it is or whether he has playschool I tell him to look at his calendar and he comes back to me with the answer. When he goes to bed at night he marks an X and says goodnight to the day.
